Global Federations Discuss Merger for Olympic Represenation

Monday, October 30, 2023

A topic of constant discussion is how and when pickleball will become an official sport in the olympics. Looks like it's a little bit closer for 2032.

Pickleball Governance Unification on the Horizon: The leaders of the International Pickleball Federation (IPF) and the World Pickleball Federation (WPF) have initiated discussions aimed at finding common ground for the governance of pickleball at the global level.

Toward Olympic Recognition: Unifying pickleball governance is a significant step toward achieving recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). For the sport to be accepted as an Olympic event, it must be represented by a single international governing body. The collaboration between IPF and WPF aligns with the goal of making pickleball an IOC-recognized sport by 2032.

WPF and IPF: Mission and Purpose: The WPF is dedicated to fostering inclusivity, sportsmanship, and excellence in pickleball. It actively organizes events, supports athletes, and promotes the sport globally. The IPF, on the other hand, focuses on the international growth and development of pickleball, with the ultimate aim of achieving IOC recognition. Both organizations share the common goal of advancing the sport of pickleball on a global scale, and their collaboration signals a promising future for the sport.
